PCI-300 PCI-Slot Ventilation Brackets

PCI-300 PCI-Slot Ventilation Brackets permit airflow through a case's usually-blocked expansion bay holes. They are meshed to allow this airflow while still blocking a decent amount of dust and larger objects, such as critters.

Fans

Nexus sent us three of its silent fans: an 80 mm fan, a 92 mm fan, and a 120 mm fan. Each fan is brushless and has both a 4-pin Molex power connector and a 3-pin motherboard connector. This 3-pin connector allows the motherboard to monitor the speed of the fan and adjust it if necessary. Each comes with a set of open chassis rubber mounts like those in the aformentioned mounting kit.

Fan size Noise level Fan speed Airflow
80 mm 17.6 dB(A) 1500 RPM 20.2 CFM
92 mm 19.2 dB(A) 1500 RPM 27 CFM
120 mm 22.8 dB(A) 1000 RPM 36.87 CFM

I used lm_sensors to perform some idle spot checks. I replaced an 80 mm Young Lin fan on my workstation computer case with the 80 mm Nexus fan. The fan is positioned on the removable side panel directly above the processor. Prior to the replacement, the CPU and motherboard temperatures sat at approximately 35°C and 26°C, respectively. With the Nexus fan, though, those temperatures dropped by appoximately five degrees Celsius to approximately 30°C and 21°C. Additionally, the fan is considerably quieter.

These fans are going in all of my rigs henceforth.
