Jon, Pat, and myself attended
Ontario Linuxfest on October 13, 2007 at the Toronto Congress Centre in Toronto. Herein is my review of the first of what we hope is a long-standing conference.
Crossing the border
The trip up was fortunately uneventful. Neither Jonathan nor Pat have been to Canada, so crossing the border was a new experience. We exchanged some dollars for loonies at the Duty Free, and got through the booths quickly. The hotel, Radisson, is cool and has a ritzy feel.
Pre-party
The pre-party was sponsored by
Lullabot, a Drupal consultancy. We talked with a few of the organizers and attendees, and enjoyed music, food, and beverages. We also got a closer look at the OLPC XO, and I even got to play with it a little. We headed back to our apartment after a late night meal at Kelsey's, an Applebee's-like restaurant that is common in Canada.
Registration
We headed to the Toronto Congress Center in the morning to check-in, but not before hitting up the Tim Horton's coffee shop chain that seems like it's on every corner in Ontario.
Our badges were large, and had our names on them. The design of the case was such that attendees could be business cards in the upper pocket—this proved to be quite useful as I handed out business cards at this event.
Jon, Pat, and I attended various presentations, but I've detailed herein only those I attended.
