Skype Challenge: Other Tests
Skype Challenge February 26th, 2007Nicholas Wolfgang
I did some more tests over the weekend. I took the phone into the city and tried to see how useful it was. I couldn’t find any free wifi access points but the open access points I tried were all low signal and I was unable to connect. Walking around the city I was unable to may any calls. We do have free wifi here in Philadelphia but I was not around where we have it.
The last test I did over the weekend was more of a geek test. I called a cell phone of some one in the same room to see how much lag was in the call. Between the Skype phone and a GSM Cingular phone there was a lag of one second. This was only noticeable when I called some one in the room.
Also I need more people to talk to.

I was impressed with that test that you and I conducted. If you recall, we had it attached to your WAP in your apartment and we left the apartment with a 30 second window between us. We placed a call from your Skype phone to my cellphone while in the apartment and kept it going until we eventually lost signal. We didn’t actuallylose signal until you went around the corner of the block that you live on. Can’t wait to see what this thing can do provided you can get some free wifi someplace that doesn’t require browser authentication. Some free wifi providers want you to click on a little disclaimer indicating that you agree to their terms of service, so bring your laptop or PDA when you go testing just to check it out before.
